The Nakuis and Iteris live 60 miles from the nearest road and 5-days by river to town. Until very recently they were unheard of by government education officials.
In April 2023 the school launched with two first grade classrooms. All children taller than a meter stick were admitted. No Nakui or Iteri has ever completed grade 6, but now there are 91 reasons for optimism.
